“In my Father’s house are many rooms…..”
Recently, a good friend and a Christian brother, told me he was concerned about where he’ll live when he gets to heaven. My first thought was that he was kidding me, but then, I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was totally serious.
He went on to tell me, that this had been bothering him for some time. He was certain that he would see his Savior face-to-face, but not as sure where he’ll stay when he gets to heaven.
I’ll admit, that I was a bit uncomfortable. I often use levity to lighten a situation because it makes me more comfortable and it was tempting to fall back on a “Heaven joke” to break the seriousness of the moment.
Instead, I shared John 14 “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
As I watched, as God’s word spoke to his heart, I could see the care wash from his face. “In my Father’s house are many rooms….”
One of those rooms is there for each of us who believe in Jesus Christ, our Savior. Jesus, who not only gave up his life for ours, but has gone on to prepare a place for each of us.
Every day, God presents us with opportunities to share his word. Do we readily share God’s word with others?
I often wonder why he’d use this broken vessel to reach others. I think it’s because he understands how broken I am and how much I also need to hear his promise again and again.
Thank you, God, for giving me those opportunities; thank you for trusting me with your word; thank you for all of the grace you so readily provide for my life.
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” ~ John 14:1-7
Amen and Amen.
