Have Faith In God!

April 14, 2018

22“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” ~ Mark 11:22-25 – NIV

Faith, what a marvelous saving word! As I was doing some “Spring Cleaning” this morning, I came across a piece I had written in 1975 concerning faith.

Since writing that piece, my life has taken me in many different directions, including running away from God and his salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. I wish I’d had this to ponder at the very time I was blaming God for all the mountains in my life. Hopefully, I’m now older and wiser, but God’s word rings even more truly as I count my many blessings.

Faith ~ Joel Jensen circa 1975

I want all of you to think about this word for a moment and what meaning it has for you.

The word faith encompasses a lot of things, but let’s take faith in its most basic form, that is faith in God.

In Matthew, chapter 17, verse 20, Jesus says “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move hence to yonder place, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. ~ Matthew 17:20 – KJV

I like the illustration of the mountain as it applies to our lives. How many times have you said or heard “You’re always making mountains out of molehills.”

One interpretation is that these mountains are the problems and concerns that confront us daily. All of you have had a towering problem, this mountain that overshadows you, that staggers your mind. And while it overwhelms us, it becomes this mountain that Jesus spoke of.

Let me paraphrase and say, “If any man shall say to this problem be thou removed and believes (has faith in God) that it will be cast away, he will see it done for him.”

Faith can move mountains; in fact, it is a binding force that holds us ever closer to God. It is the same faith that gives us communion with God; and through God, all things are possible.

If we learn to apply even a little faith in our lives, we may soon find that life is a bit easier to live with and, maybe those mountains are only molehills after all.
